Secret Widgets can get your site banned...
Widgets sound good don't they ?
Or are they ....
Free Web Counters are really useful - but why are they FREE ?
Now this may come as a bit of a shock to you but people do not usually do things for nothing.
And the people who 'give' you free goodies may actually be using you as a sales tool.
I seriously suggest you read this interview with Matt Cutts on the subject :

Why ? Because some (not all of course) of those widgets and other gadgets or plug-ins may actually be harming your website.
The ones to look out for are those with hidden code in their java (nice webcounter - what a shame it sends your customer to a mesothelomia site where the webcounter company get $15 for sending them there ....)
Oh and those hidden clauses in the terms of use contract way down in paragraph 263
that enable them to dump code out to all your customers.
There are also webcounters that do the same thing when the counter is actually a picture that if clicked sends the customer to look at Payday Loans... Oh Dear !
Now those tricky little beggars will actually HARM your website rating since they are sending visitors to UNRELATED sites (by unrelated I mean sites specifically designed to make the originator a ppc fee and that is a BIG NO NO for search machines)
That can get your website BANNED and ignorance is no excuse ....

Before you install anything elese that is 'Free' just check what it is that you are installing !

totally agree with you! "free" things are not necessary "free" as many have "hidden" stuffs, especially pop-ups :)
