Why Microstock ?

Several of my friends asked me recently why I sell Microstock (low cost) photos.
The answer is very simple - bulk sales.
Regular stock depends largely on single sales at moderate to high prices.
Microstock offers affordable good quality photos for web and other low budget uses.
In my opinion the two are compatible.
(Although many of the microstock companies I've visited don't seem to know the difference between good and average - or even poor pictures)
I'm still looking at other companies with a view to spreading my outlets (and increasing my income) but the concept of only recieving 25 cents on a dollar sale of a download still is unattractive.
The subscription model looks attractive at first but you only have to look at ebay to see a number of people ripping photos off that they have downloaded from subscription companies.
They then sell these to other designers or publishers for a few dollars.
Until Ebay drops down on these vendors (when they'll probably move to smaller auction companies) this will be a MAJOR problem for subscription based companies.
Technology seems to be outstripping the law currently.

This means that subscription companies will have a very limited life IMHO.

It will be interesting won't it !!
If you're supplying stock to a microstock company then please add your comments to this blog.
Thanks for reading
Keith
